Ruteng Cathedral

After our road trip we were back in Ruteng again for a few days. The new cathedral is an impressive building with beautiful grounds and a backdrop of looming mountains. The weather in Ruteng fascinates me because it reminds me a lot of Irish weather...you know always cloudy and raining a lot. Such was the day we visited the cathedral. The mountains behind were covered with low thick clouds and provided a very stormy feel to our visit. We took a peek inside the very well tended building and grounds. There is even an organic vegetable garden on the grounds where you can buy broccoli, eggplant, carrots and lettuce to name a few. There is also a cave with a shrine to the Virgin Mary. It is beautiful with the many drippings of candle wax hanging from the rocks setting a reminder of the hopes and dreams of those who have come before us...
